Description |
A-right glove; Wool Knit -- these golves have been knit with purple, black and white yarn and in a certain design. Along the top of the gloves is a border of short strands of yarn. |
Notes |
The gloves were owned by/belonged to Herbert Wheeler (but are not men's gloves) and were passed down through the family. They were believed to have been knit by a man circa 1870. According to knitting history enthusiast Sharlene Young-Bolen "The colourwork motifs are similar to both the Shetland Fair Isle pattern, ‘Little Flowers’ as well as the Estonian pattern, ‘Cat’s Paw’. The gloves feature a fringed cuff, also hinting at an Estonian inspiration." |
