Notes |
Information from a label and newspaper article in the file: "This dinner bell was brought to Canada in 1833 by Dr. William "Tiger" Dunlop from the Dunlop Estate in Scotland. The bell was given to Dunlop's step-niece, Mary Carmichael (Mrs. Jos Morris) as a wedding present in the mid 1800's and it continued to call the men from the fields of Colborne Township for many years. In 1962, Thomas Sillib (age 85), remembering the "Dunlop Bell" from boyhood, purchased it and presented it to the Huron County Pioneer Museum as a permanent home for this early historic relic." |
